The MTN Barberton Mountain Bike Challenge will take place on Saturday, 24 January 2009.
All races will start and end at the Barberton High School! (S25º46'31,7" E31º03'04,5")
Barberton is about more than gold and daisies. You can journey back into time to the early earth whilst savouring the current landscape. It is so easy! Stay a bit longer, join the locals and plan your sojourn to include some of the activities listed or by contacting the Information Centre 013 712 2880. Or simply visit the information stand which will be at the event on Friday night and Saturday. You will find it in the hall close to the race registration desk.
Celebrating FIRSTS:
· It is the FIRST time that the MTN Mountain Bike Challenge will pass through the FIRST World Heritage Site for Mpumalanga- and yes this is a big deal and a big area with lots to see and do.
· It is the FIRST time the participants will be able to race through the magnificent Mountainlands Nature Reserve, part of a suite of reserves that form the core of the proposed World Heritage Site.

Rules:
- NO HELMET NO RIDE! STRIP HELMETS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
- All cyclists participating in the 75Km and 45Km races must be licensed or purchase a day license.
- Receipt of postal entries will only be acknowledged if a fax number or e-mail address has been supplied.
- Number plates must be affixed to the handlebars.
- Cyclists must obey all traffic rules and traffic officials, marshals, officials and route signs, otherwise they will be disqualified.
- Cyclists to keep to the left of the road/path to allow a free flow of traffic. Cyclists must pull off the road/path to do repairs.
- Cyclists must STOP at water points if they wish to receive refreshments.
- No cyclist may deviate from the route. A sweep marshal will collect stranded cyclists.
- NO LITTERING WILL BE ALLOWED.
- NO SMOKING OR OPEN FIRES WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE ROUTE.
- An adult participant must accompany children under 10 years of age at all times.
- No seconds or vehicles are allowed to follow the cyclists.
- The race referee will adjudicate on any dispute including the interpretation of these rules and his ruling shall be final and binding.
- The organisers shall be entitled, if they deem it necessary, to amend, delete, or add to these rules.
- Cyclists who are not present at the prize giving ceremony will forfeit their prizes.
