1) The Jock Cycle Classique will start from BARBERTON HIGHSCHOOL at 07h00The Tandems will start at 06h55, followed by the Elite & U/23 riders at 07h00 sharp. From then onward all the Licenced Elite Ladies, and Veteran classes up tp 45-59 age categories will start at 5 minute intervals. After them the open seeded A category will start until the last open seeded class. They will ride from the start in Sheba road down to the intersection with the R40 and turn left into the direction of Nelspruit. Neutral zone will be till you pass the train bridge on the R40. You will follow the road over Hilltop all the way right into Nelspruit until you get to the intersection with Enos Mabusa drive, where all cyclists will turn right and follow the road over steiltes where the first King & Queen of the mountains will start at approx. 45Km ending at 46 km from the start. A dangerous downhill follows the route until you get to the N4 T- Junction.They will turn right onto the N4 at 50,5 Km. and turn right again onto the Mara road at 68,5km. over Boulders. The 2nd King and Queen of the mountain will start at 75,3 km ending at 76,3 km. Take care over the dangerous downhill starting at 84 km. Remember your own lifew and safety is in your own hands. The race turns right at the Kaapmuiden intersection 92,2 km. from the start and follow the rollercoaster ride back to Barberton. The Hotpot for men and ladies start at 122,5 km. and ends at 123,5km. Riders then turn right at Fairview mine loop, 136km. and the finish is in front of Barberton High school 143,5 km.
2) The 105 Km. Race starts at Nelspruit also at 07h00 Tandems will start first then all Licenced Juniors, Vets 50+, Ladies 30+, tandems and open seeded riders for 105km race, will start here. the N4 towards the Mara road turn-off. Here starts the most serious climb of 7 km. over Boulders to the highest point of the course before descending along the dangerous downhill with sharp corners where cyclists reach speeds of over 100km per hour to Kaapmuiden, the lowest point on the curcuit.
3) The 58 km. race starts at the T-Junction of the Barberton -Kaapmuiden Rd. and the Boulders Rd. at 07h00. The Licenced U/14 & U/16 Boys and Girls, Tandems and open seeded for 58km. will cycle along the "rollercoaster" ride that is typically in mountainous area up and down towards Barberton. Approx. 20km from the end is Ezzeys Pass a 1,2 km steep climb. In Barberton the race ends at a steep drag in Sheba Rd. right infront of Barberton Highschool.
4) The race is in winter on the second last Saturday of July each year, this year it will be on 18 July 2008.
5) Because of the toughness of the race, no rider under Junior status is allowed, according to the international U.C.I. rules, to compete in the 105 or the 150 km. distances, therefore, they only compete in the 58 km. distance.
6) Numbers can be collected at Cyclelab on Thursday 16/07/09 between 09h00 & 17h00, or Barberton High School on Friday 17/07/09 between 15h00 & 20h00 and Saturday 18/07/08 at Barberton High School or at L.V.C.C. Sports club in Nelspruit at 05h30 -06h45. and at Kaapmuiden 05h30 - 06h45.
7) REMEMBER THIS RACE WILL BE RUN ACCORDING TO THE RULES & REGULATIONS OF THE U.C.I. - CYCLING S.A. AND MPUMALANGA CYCLING UNION. The Jock is rated as a classic, and must be run accordingly.
8) It is compulsory to wear a helmet during the race.
9) Obey all Traffic rules and stay on the left hand side of the road. The roads are narrow therefore it is for your own safety. Those who would not adhere to the rules will be disqualified.
10) In Nelspruit there will be a marshall or traffic officer at each intersection, Please obey the traffic rules and co-operate with these officials and don't be rude to them, as the existence of these cycling events is largely in their hands.
11) When taking on refreshments at water points, you must move to the back of the bunch and to the left hand side of the road to ensure safe passage. Purified water will be served in sachets and Coca Cola / Powerade will be served in cups for your convenience.
12) The race moves through a nature reserve just as you leave the N4 towards Mara. No Sachets will be handed out in this area. Drinks will be served in cups and facilities will be here to fill up your water bottles. Please don't litter (GU-, CORN SYRUP, ETC) as wild animals run free in this area.
13) The DESCENT FROM BOULDER APROX. 80 KM. FROM THE START IS DANGEROUS AND QUITE TECHNICAL. Please take care, remember you have your own life and safety in your own hands.
14) Please ensure that you receive the right medal for the distance that you have done. The medals will be handed out at the end at Barberton High School just after going over the mats.
15) Medi-Clinic will have tents to handle all cramps and minor falls at Boulders approx. 76km. from start, Ezzies Pass, 125Km from start and at the finish in Barberton.
16) Medi- Clinic in Nelspruit as well as in Barberton will be on constant stand-by for any emergencies.
17) Three Ambulances & a Response vehicle from E.R.24 will be on the route for assistance and emergencies.
18) Participants must reach the cut-off point in Nelspruit before 09h30, and in Kaapmuiden by 12h00. All Participants that have not reached those points by the prescribed time, will receive transport back to Barberton, & their race will automatically be over, as we are limited to time.
19) The timing will once again be done professionally by the officials of Cycling S.A. and by Winning Time. Please remember to fit your chip. All results will be available for all to see on their internet website.
