Members of the Barberton Bowls Club were recognised for their achievements at the annual general meeting.
According to the outgoing president Dick Terburgh the members have done extremely well during the past year.
Two of them, Dick and Gert Cilliers played against each other in the Mpumalanga senior singles final which Gert won. Marie Saayman and Shaun van Vuuren won the Mpumalanga mixed pairs against Corrie Els and Joey Bam who are also members of Barberton.
Joey and Marthie van Vuuren in turn won the Mpumalanga women pairs.
“This is quite an achievement for a club of our size,” Dick said.
He reported back on the club’s activities of the past year and said that despite the economic recession the club flourished. Approximately R40 000 was spent on the pitch and it is in an immaculate condition. At present it has 38 registered members.
The new committee for 2010/11 is Kosie Smit as president, Dick Terburgh as vice president, Marie Saayman as secretary, Gert Cilliers as treasurer, with Jan Greeff and Johan Feuth as additional members.
Anyone that would like to join the club is more than welcome to pay them a visit. Dick can be contacted during office hours on 013-712-2821.
