Jaco Landsberg has been inducted as the new president of the local Rotary Club for 2010/11.

George Pearse, outgoing president, reflected back on a busy and successful year. For him personally the year has been a learning experience and one of growth. “With this year’s theme being, the future of Rotary is in your hands, we specifically focussed on the youth and two students were sent overseas as exchange students with another seven going in December.”

The mountain bike race was another successful project and with the changed route that would be fixed as such in the future, it was well accepted and enjoyed by all. The entries are gradually growing again and the race is a huge economic injection for the town.

Various other ongoing projects are still supported by the club like the feeding schemes for the elderly as well as at the primary school, books that were distributed at various schools and the handing out of blankets and wheelchairs.

In his acceptance speech Landsberg said he was honoured to be chosen as president. The theme for this year is – Building communities, bridging continents. He also said that the club would be working closer together with other Rotary clubs in the region this year.

His directors will be George Pearse (membership), Ben Theron (public relations), Chris Rippon (administration), Pieter Ferreira (foundation) and Hennie Coetzee (mountain bike).

Outgoing president had the honour to select the stirrer of the year and it fell on the shoulders of Jo Mets.

Veronica Pearse will lead the Rotary Anns for another year as their president.
