An outside kitchen was recently built at Funwako Secondary School so that the 708 learners could receive a cooked meal on a daily basis.

Lucky Nkosi, principal at the school said that the department of education informed the school that they want to start a nutrition scheme in the school as it was in a rural area. They assisted in the building of the outside kitchen and women from the community volunteered to do the cooking.

Vegetables, mealie meal, beans, milk and soup is some of the items that gets delivered to the school every day and the women cook according to a set menu provided by the department.

“Farmers and businesses contribute many of the items for which we are most grateful,” Lucky said. However if there are any farmers or businessmen that feel they would like to help out and make a difference as well, do not hesitate to contact the school. For many of the children it is the only meal they get on a daily basis.

Lucky can be contacted on 076-860-1139 or Jabulani Nkosi (deputy) on 083-429-1278.
