The first Round Table 4x4 family fun day was hosted at Moodies Estate on Saturday.

According to Warren Hearn, tabler, they decided to put in an effort to organise a huge fundraising event instead of a few small events during the year. It exceeded their expectations in such a huge way that they’ve decided to make it an annual event.

Approximately 1 000 people went through the gate. Various motor dealers exhibited their vehicles, heavy moving machinery, tractors, tyres and agricultural equipment.

Food, drinks and all kinds of items were for sale at the stalls. Local artists entertained the spectators in the beer tent and there were enough activities to keep the kids occupied as well.

However, the main attraction was the manoeuvres of the 30 vehicles that entered to see who had the best 4x4 skills.

The first was an obstacle course during the morning through mud, uphill and down hill, across a stream balancing on tree stumps, around an angled hill, through a patch with pot holes to mention but a few.

After everyone recuperated and checked their vehicles for damage, a showstopper was presented where the 4x4 boffins tried to race through thick muddy patches. Many met their match here and had to be pulled out by tractors.

Two women, Jacky Schnepel and Madeleine Badenhorst decided to try this out as well after convincing hubby to give them his vehicle, and much to their and the crowd’s surprise, succeeded.

A few dare devils tried the same muddy patches on their quads and did unfortunately not get very far, much to the delight of everyone else.

The overall winners of the day were Gert Jordaan with 480 points, Koos van Heerden second with 470 and Mario Iori with 390. The different category winners were Gert (purpose build), Mario (standard long wheel base), Roland Jones (standard short wheel base), Riaan Killan (modified long wheel base) and Attie Pieterson (modified short wheel base).

The Tablers thanked everybody for their support especially the sponsors and Hi-Tech who secured the premises. Many enthusiasts, like the Nissan 4x4 club of Gauteng also came all way to give support.

After all the fun and games everybody relaxed in the beer tent watching the test match between the Springboks and Australia.
