A couple of bikers who turned up for Pappa's famous breackfast
If you like what’s normally cooking in mom’s kitchen, you are going to love Pappas Kitchen even more!
Pappas has new franchise owners and since Lawrence and Elsabé Reyneke took over in the beginning of April there has already been a noticeable new vibe, especially on Wednesday and Friday evenings when they provide live music. They have increased the seating in and outside the restaurant from 90 to 130. A winning team, Dillen Eksteen, Elsabé and Lawrence Reyneke and Ronel Reinecke.
Pappas was originally started by Sarel Reyneke approximately 20 years ago in Nelspruit. He sold his business and the new owner changed it into a franchise and Barberton was the fourth restaurant to open in the Lowveld. And yes, you guessed correctly, Lawrence and Sarel are brothers. However, although Lawrence has been involved in Pappas since his brother started it, he did not plan on becoming an owner one day.
The restaurant specializes in pizza and pasta and its pizzas have become very popular for its wood burning oven in which the pizzas are made. Our Pappas also has a special menu available. You can order dishes like chicken, ribs, steaks, combos burgers or fish. Lawrence’s idea is to make Pappas a family orientated restaurant. Lawrence Reyneke behind his guitar
“With the new kiddies’ room, parents can relax in the garden while their kids are safely kept busy,” he said. Cots and mattresses will be added to this room where they can watch TV, play and simply fall asleep while mom and dad enjoy a night out.
Lawrence is also a musician and between himself and Sol Reinecke they provide live music on Wednesdays and Fridays. The new acoustic band that Sol has started, PT Why Ltd will perform twice a month and according to those in the know they rock.
If you can sing and play an instrument Thursday nights are for you. Come and share your talent with others as this will be open-mic night. Another item that is in the planning stages are ballroom dance classes that would most probably take place on a Tuesday evening. “But this still needs to be confirmed,” he said.
He is also looking into re-introducing the breakfast menu which will mean that the restaurant will open much earlier. The pizza chefs are Kenneth Tembo, Sifiso Sithole and Ephraim Sibeko
Another bonus is that Lawrence would like to start with deliveries and has already bought a scooter for this. “The only problem is that I cannot find someone yet who can do the deliveries for us,” Lawrence said.
Pappas is situated in Judge Street in a historical building dating back to 1887. Not only does it generate its own unique atmosphere but locals and tourist can really put their feet up and escape to peace and tranquility surrounded by scenic mountains .
It is fully licensed and will also cater for small private functions or business conferences. With the unique outside area sheltered from the cold with warm burning fires you cannot help but go back again and again.
Businessmen will soon be able to sit and work on the Internet when a wireless service will be made available. Two waiters Jaun Benadé and Christo Havenga serves Lizelle Nienhuis, Chantelle van Wyk, Adéle Hartman and Nicolene Burnett with pizza.
Pappas opens everyday at 11:00. On Tuesdays to Saturdays the kitchen closes at 21:30 and on Sundays and Mondays at 20:30. “We are only closed on Christmas and New Year,” Lawrence said with a smile.
Nothing complements each other better than good pizza and wine. Add a relaxed atmosphere and warm burning fires in the winter months and you have a winning recipe.
This is what Pappas has to offer.
Lawrence concluded by saying that “We are striving towards world-class quality”. Therefore things like free WiFi Internet is available.
